Elasticity, putting web development and business together

I’m in a train going through fields and fields in the middle of nowhere (some people call it La Mancha) returning to Valencia from a quick trip to Madrid and I’d like to take this opportunity in order to update the blog, because even it’s a bit shaming the number of drafts has exceeded the number of published posts and I have to do something about that now.

Furthermore in the last days some people have warned me that I should not give up posting and write more frequently. It’s a bit difficult because right now I’m so immersed in my Industrial Engineering exams and all the work I do as a freelance web designer that I simply can’t spend my time writing. Anyway, once I read “there’s always time for the things you really like”, so I think I don’t really have an excuse.

Talking about university, one of the subjects I had this year was Industrial Economy; I have become more and more interested in this field for some time now. This interest mostly comes in terms of my field – if I really have a field where I grow and develop – from the preoccupation of not only provide users with tools so they can kick ass, but also make it in the most efficient way; i.e. do great shit.

Anyway, it usually doesn’t work like that. And this conflict is what Economy is all about.

Events, Events, Events

That’s what I’ve been up to in the last month or so besides the usual studying. And I know I must write more frequently… I have more than 10 posts in drafts waiting to be finished and published.

Anyway, I wanted to share with you that I’m immersed in the organisation team of three very interesting events in the Valencian area that will be hold soon in the next days.

Call for participation: BarCamp Valencia

Some of the usual people in the Valencian tech meetings — GUM ValenciaTwittche… — are considering the possibility of organizing a BarCamp in our city; this has been one of the recurrent conversations for some time now, besides the new gadget acquisitions, and the measurement of our penises camera lenses.

The Rails Way

These days I am trying to accomplish one of my 2009 New Year’s resolutions: Learn Ruby on Rails and be able to prototype, code and design one functional web application (you know, I’m in exams time…)

I have already worked with Ruby on Rails before, but only from the designer’s point of view: being able to implement my designs without the application to crash. Anyway the workflow with RoR, the philosophy behind and its singularities definitely definitely hooked me. Furthermore I must say to my own shame that I have only coded in C programming language in order to pass my practical lessons at the University.

To gain an insight into what I am talking about let’s face a real problem with which I had to deal while I am building this application.
